KELLY LANE
Bio:
Hailing from the picturesque landscapes of East Tennessee’s Smokey Mountains, Kelly Lane now calls Florida’s panhandle home. His artistic prowess was recognized and nurtured during his high school years under the tutelage of Mrs. Waller, which earned him an art scholarship. While Kelly’s career has spanned both the arts and technical fields, he has consistently remained committed to his craft, with a special affection for oil painting.
Artist Statement:
Deeply influenced by the timeless techniques of masters such as Rembrandt, Vermeer, Velázquez, Zorn, and John Singer Sargent, and the contemporary insights of Chuck Close and Richard Schmid, my creations echo the profound depths of realistic impressionism.
I employ the Alla Prima technique, painting wet onto wet in a single layer, a method that allows me to capture the essence of dramatic scenes, especially the enigmatic charm of moody still lifes. With a limited palette, I illuminate the delicate interplay of light against dark, creating lost and soft edges that imbue my subjects with emotion, making them leap to life on the canvas.
